Is the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (Intel® GMA Driver) the same as the Intel® HD Graphics?

They're the same. The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD is an older name. Newer drivers use the newer name "Intel® HD Graphics."

Does my computer use the Intel® HD Graphics?

To see if your computer uses Intel® HD Graphics, identify your graphics controller.

My computer doesn't have Intel® HD Graphics but uses an older Intel® Graphics Controller. Where can I get Blu-ray Disk playback information?

See frequently asked questions Blu-ray Disc playback with the Intel® graphics for the Intel® 3 Series Chipsets, Intel® 4 Series Chipsets, and Intel® 965 Express Chipsets.

On which operating systems is Blu-ray disc movie playback supported with Intel® HD Graphics?

With the Intel® HD Graphics, Blu-ray Disc playback is only supported with the Windows Vista*, Windows 7*, and Windows 8* operating systems. Some media features required for Blu-ray Disc playback, including content protection, are only available in the Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows Vista*/7*/8*. Intel® Graphics Drivers on Windows XP* still support playback of Standard/High Definition (SD/HD) video clips, DVD, and other video sources.

How can I ensure the best possible media playback experience?

Make sure you're using the latest versions of the media player application, system BIOS, and the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver.

  • Latest version of the player application
We recommend that you use a version of the player from your computer manufacturer. In addition, we've worked with key media application vendors to optimize media playback. These key vendors include ArcSoft*, sMedio*, and CyberLink*.

  • Latest System BIOS for your computer or motherboard
Visit your computer or motherboard manufacturer’s website to check for the latest BIOS.

If you have an Intel® Desktop Board, you can get the latest BIOS from Download Center.

  • Latest Intel® Management Engine interface driver for your computer or motherboard
Visit your computer or motherboard manufacturer’s website to check whether an Intel® Management Engine driver is available for your computer. Not all computer or motherboard manufacturers provide the driver.

If you have an Intel® Desktop Board, check Download Center if a management engine driver is available for your board.

We do not provide generic versions of the Intel® Management Engine interface driver. You must use a driver that has been validated by your computer or motherboard manufacturer for your specific computer or motherboard model.

  • Latest Intel® HD Graphics driver from your computer or motherboard manufacturer
We provide generic versions of graphics drivers available. We recommend you use the latest drivers validated by your computer or motherboard manufacturer. You can usually download the drivers from your computer or motherboard manufacturer's website.

If you have an Intel® Desktop Board, the latest driver that has been validated with your board can be downloaded from Download Center.

To see if a newer generic graphics driver is available for your computer, visit the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant. If this utility detects a customized driver is installed, see Error Message: Computer Manufacturer Graphics Driver Detected for additional information.
