How to determine which Intel® Xeon® Processors are for retail purchase as Boxed Intel® processors and which are available only as tray processors
Cannot determine which Intel® Xeon® Processors are available as Boxed retail version and as tray version
First check if the Intel® Xeon® Processor is discontinued:
- Visit the Intel Product Specifications website (ARK).
- Search specifications by the processor number or navigate by selecting Processors > Intel® Xeon® Processors > select the processor family > select the specific processor.
- View the processor's Status in the processors table or in the Essentials section of a processor's specifications page. The Status may be Discontinued or Launched if not yet discontinued. Also, take note of the Launch Date for the processor which is also listed in the Essentials section. Very new processors may take some time to ramp up in availability. Older processors can be difficult to locate for purchase.
If the processor is not discontinued, to determine which processors are available as Boxed Intel® processors versus as tray processors:
- Visit the Intel Product Specifications website.
- Navigate by selecting Processors > Intel® Xeon® Processors > and select the processor family you are interested in, for example, 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors.
- Under the family name, select the Retail Box Filter to view a list of processors with a Boxed retail version.
- If checking a specific processor, open the Specifications page for that processor, and then click Ordering and Compliance. If a Boxed version is available, it will be listed under Ordering and spec information. Processors listed without Boxed are tray processors.
If looking for availability of an Intel Xeon processor, contact an Intel® Authorized Distributor or Intel® Approved Component Supplier for the latest availability information about specific processors. These companies will be able to check on the availability and how long it may take to order a specific processor.
