Adaptive tessellation is used to maintain high visual quality in games at a lower rendering cost through a mesh generation technique, and is a feature supported in our graphics control panels. Intel recently discovered a bug in our graphics control panel software where the adaptive tessellation feature setting was incorrectly enabled when the feature was untoggled. This bug only affects 10th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor-based (“Ice Lake”) systems and only if the Intel Graphics Control Panel or Intel Graphics Command Center (IGCC) is installed on the system.

Intel has issued a software update for IGCC that will fix this bug, ensuring the adaptive tessellation feature is correctly disabled when the feature is untoggled. This updated version is now live on the Windows Store, which users can download here.

For end users that currently have the Intel Graphics Control Panel installed, you must uninstall the previous version of the Intel Graphics Control Panel and install the new version of IGCC. For end users that currently have the Intel Graphics Command Center (IGCC) installed, Intel recommends updating to the new version; an uninstall/reinstall is not needed.

This bug is not expected to impact real-world performance for the most popular games that are playable on 10th Gen Intel Core Processor-based (“Ice Lake”) systems, and in testing no measurable impact has been found.

The enablement of adaptive tessellation does however result in higher frames-per-second output in 3DMark11, and 3DMark “Sky Diver” and “Fire Strike” tests, where disabling this feature impacts results by -5% to -7%.
