Why do I see configuration failure in Arria 10 multi-device Active Serial configuration scheme?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

In Arria® 10 Active Serial (AS), multi-device configuration will fail if the configuration bitstream of the slave device span across the EPCQ-L die boundary.

  • EPCQ-L1024 has 4x256Mb die
  • EPCQ-L512 has 2x256Mb die

After the master device is configured, it will continue to read the bitstream from EPCQ-L flash to configure the slave device. The Arria® 10 device control block will issue additional read command when crossing the EPCQ-L die boundary.

This additional command causes unexpected data being read by the slave device during configuration. This issue affect all Arria® 10 devices.

Resolution

Compress the bitstream and make sure both master and slave devices configuration bitstreams are stored within the 256Mb die boundary of EPCQ-L device.
