Why do I get an error that says "Error: Unsupported device family. Supported device families are: Stratix10, Arria10, Cyclone10GX" when compiling my component for Cyclone® V devices?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard Edition
  • Intel® High Level Synthesis Compiler Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

The Intel® High Level Synthesis Compiler Pro Edition Getting Started Guide (UG-20036) for Versions 20.4 (2020.12.14) - 21.2 (2021.06.21) contained ambiguous instructions in section1.3. Installing the Intel® HLS Compiler Pro Edition for Cyclone® V Device Support that might imply that you can use a version of the Intel® HLS Compiler earlier than Version 20.4 to compile a component for Cyclone® V devices.

You might see an error when you compile a component for Cyclone® V device with Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard or Lite Editions Version 19.1 and Intel® HLS Compiler Pro Edition 19.1.

    Resolution

Cyclone® V device support requires the following software:

    • Intel® HLS Compiler Pro Edition Version 20.4 or later
    • Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard or Lite Editions Version 20.1 or later.

A version of the Intel® HLS Compiler Pro Edition compiler that supports Cyclone® V devices always requires the most recent version of  Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard or Lite Editions that was available when the version of the Intel® HLS Compiler was released. For example, to compile a component for a Cyclone® V device with the Intel® HLS Compiler Pro Edition Version 20.4, you must have Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard or Lite Editions Version 20.1 (or later) installed.

The description in the Intel® High Level Synthesis Compiler Pro Edition Getting Started Guide (UG-20036)  has been corrected as of Version 21.3 (2021.10.04).
