Enabling Edge and 5G Application Development

We have been working closely with Intel from the very start for edge computing.

The edge is where the action is. In fact, the amount of data that's being created outside of the cloud or data center actually dwarfs the amount inside. But all of this data that's being created needs to be converted into information and create positive outcomes.

When you're building an ecosystem like this, you usually need a strong player in the center of the ecosystem. Traditionally, Intel has played this very strong role in creating the ecosystems.

5G is truly an inflection point in the industry. It's about not only delivering enhanced mobile broadband. It's about delivering services across a wide variety of industries. From a software standpoint, OpenNESS is one of our key initiatives in this space, giving service providers and developers an open-source software toolkit to develop, deploy, and manage all sorts of applications.

We have been working together with Intel on OpenNESS in video analytics projects to create the blueprint for how this could work.

OpenNESS not only provide lightweight traffic-steering capability for Sigma platform, it also greatly enriched Sigma ecosystem by introducing Intel ecosystem to China Mobile.

Until now, the challenge and burden of technology choice and integration has fallen upon the end customer. And what we're trying to do here is be able to bring together a solution that has been pre-built, pre-tested.

We have been closely collaborating with Intel on the 4G, 5G, multi-access edge computing. We will continue our partnership with Intel and adopt Intel Converged Edge Reference Architecture to develop our product.

CERA includes OpenNESS to easily onboard and authenticate all sorts of applications. It also includes OpenVINO that delivers the right compute vision to support all sorts of edge-inferencing applications.

CERA unifies and converges both IoT capability with AI at the edge, along with a wireless network infrastructure to simplify application convergence at the edge. It's really a blueprint for a plug-and-play platform. This flexibility makes it a platform of choice for a multitude of applications in the smart cities and transportation sector.

Intel's partnering with industry to roll out edge solutions today across multiple locations in the edge and including customer prem. This is great excitement, of course, around 5G. And 5G is going to come. And it's going to make the edge a truly fantastic place to deploy all sorts of solutions and services with the right cloudified solutions.
