Yaskawa Electric Drives Fast, Precise Robot Control with Intel® FPGAs
To help enhance the performance, power consumption, and safety of their AGV industrial robots, Yaskawa Electric deployed Intel® FPGAs. This solution was an excellent alternative to traditional ASICs due to enhanced reliability and logic replication capability.
Mr. Takaya Ibe, President, V-Sync
“By using Intel® FPGAs, we are able to integrate twelve I2C ports to control twelve motors, which is normally only one or two ports equipped per MCU.”
Dr. Muataz Hameed Al-Doori, Senior Staff Engineering Manager, Flex
“We are using Intel® FPGAs for real-time data collection and analytics to implement predictive maintenance in our manufacturing lines. This has allowed us to improve downtime, build flexibility, and enhance productivity.”
Thomas Berndorfer, Member of the Executive Board, TTTech Industrial
“Our partnership with Intel is built on a shared vision for the future of industrial IoT and the benefits that will bring for our customers. The Intel® Cyclone® FPGA provides the perfect platform for our open connectivity and edge computing solutions. Basing our products on Intel® Cyclone® FPGAs enables us to reach the market quickly with new technologies such as TSN. As our solutions evolve, Intel® Cyclone® FPGAs offer the flexibility to stay ahead of the competition.”

Other Intel® FPGAs are also used for edge-centric applications. However, the characteristics of MAX® and Cyclone® FPGA devices—with low-power and small-form factor focus—while valued by many different types of applications, are critical for many edge applications. This feature set allows customers to build products specifically deployed on the edge.
We realize that customers choose to deploy with FPGAs because of the ability to be supported for 15 and frequently over 20+ years. With over 2.5 billion MAX® and Cyclone® FPGA devices sold, it’s important that our customers realize that they can continue to rely and design in confidence with these widely used FPGAs.
Aren’t Intel® MAX® V devices classified as a CPLD? Why is it part of the Edge-Centric FPGA portfolio?
Yes. MAX V® has CPLD capabilities and features, but at the same time it is designed around an FPGA architecture.
